Pipelines are constantly degraded over time by chemical and biological processes, and physical abrasion. To prevent pipeline leakage and costly environmental damage, pipeline owners and operators must replace compromised steel pipelines or rehabilitate them by installing a polyethylene pipeline liner or intervene with some other type of pipeline rehabilitation.  A trenchless technology solution, such as polyethylene liner installation is usually preferred because excavation of the entire pipeline or wholesale replacement of the entire pipeline is prohibitively expensive and is usually inferior to simply lining the pipeline with polyethylene.  

The most cost effective pipeline corrosion prevention or rehabilitation method is usually achieved through the installation of a high density polyethylene (HDPE) liner, preferably HEBNA HDRC.
